Leldin contributes these recipes:
The two recipes that will eventually make you more money than you could possibly need are as follows:
Ale
1 malt
1 water
1 barley
1 cask
Use this recipe to get to level 60 to 65.
Then you start using this recipe where you will eventually start making money hand over fist. This skill does not require training, and will rise extremely fast!! I have seen it raise on every attempt! And it will only cost about 10 to 15 pp to get to a level where you are going to make more than you use!!
Fierce Brew
1 barley
1 hops
1 malt
1 yeast
1 cask
Klaine contributes these comments:
Well, started brewing last night, so here's my results so far.
In roughly an hour and a half, I was able to raise my brewing from 0 to 65. I did 100 combinations or the first formula to get to 65. This seems pretty logical because my intel is only a 65. This makes me wonder if there isn't some hidden formula (100 tries, at 100 intel would get you 100 in brewing, 140 intel, 140 brewing from 100, etc). I started with about 16.5 plat or so on me, and I'm down to 9.9 plat, but I haven't sold 66 ales yet.
In those 100 attempts, I've successfully made 69 ales. My unaugmented
charisma is in the 60s so results may very. When passing this along,
you should really look at my character as being the worse it will be (unless
you're trying this as a dwarf). 69 ales selling at 2.5 silver should
be a decent return. It won't give me the 7 plat I've sunk into it so far,
but I'm now onto the
recipe that makes money.
Will let you know what I see when I hit 135 which is the max for the other recipe I'm told.
Klaine's further comments:
Well, I'm a master brewer now (135) so here's some observations about the trade. I think the first 65 progression was sent out, so I'll only do after that.
From 65 to 68, I continued with the first recipe making ales. After 68, I spent 126 run-throughs of the second recipe to make 135. In that time, I produced 226 Fierce brews which sold for 4.7 silver each. When selling them, I had an augmented charisma of 79 and the merchant conned kindly towards me. I sold just about all of the brews to the merchant as I was advancing to cover training costs.
Conclusion, brewing is no longer the money-maker it was. I began this trade with roughly 17.5 plat on me. When I ended at 135, I had 2.936 plat on me. The reason you can no longer make money is because of the last patch. As it is now, each time you are successful at creating fierce brew, you create 2 at a time. Before the patch, you created 5. As it currently stands, with no failures, you make a profit of 1 silver each success. However, my success rate was about 80% meaning I should just about break even.
So, if you're going into brewing to make money (like me), the best thing I can tell you is don't. As of the last patch, you won't anymore.
